Praise for How to Train Your Dragon:IRA and CBC Children's Choices List 2005"Short chapters, clever slapstick, kid-pleasing character names and goofy, childlike drawings will keep even reluctant readers turning these pages--and chuckling as they go."―Publishers Weekly"A narrative rich in dragon muck... genuinely fierce [and] intelligent."―Kirkus"...This is a goofy and exciting tale of an underdog who proves that brains can be just as important as brawn. Kids will hoot at the ridiculous names and sympathize with Hiccup's exasperation with his truly obstinate but strangely lovable dragon. A delightful read."―School Library Journal"This hilarious farce will appeal to heroic fiction fans."―Booklist

THIS SERIES ISN'T WHAT YOU EXPECTI think it's safe to say that if you're reading this review, you've seen the How to Train Your Dragon movie. This book series is nothing like that movie. The movies follow a vastly different plot than the book series. I wanted to read about Toothless the fierce and lovable rare Night Fury dragon, but the books describe Toothless as a common tiny dragon (about the size of a house cat) who is actually rather stubborn and selfish. At first I didn't like that at all. By the time I got to the second book, I was really enjoying the books as they were written and not as I expected they should be.Contrary to what you believe, the Isle of Berk is not attacked by dragons constantly. The Vikings that live on Berk actually have dragon pets. In order to become a member of the tribe, you have to capture and train a dragon (typically by yelling at it very loudly). Hiccup has the unique ability to understand the dragon language and decides to talk to his dragon instead of yelling at it. The book series is a collection of Hiccup's memoirs. The series consists of 12 primary books and 5 supplemental books. I only read the 12 primary books:PROSPlot - Each book was had its own stand aloneplot. There was no overarching plot that carried itself from book to book. The plots were straightforward and adventurous. Being a middle grade series, they were somewhat predictable, but that didn't deter from my enjoyment. In fact, I feel like middle grade novels should be predictable so that young readers can develop the skills used to predict outcomes based on given context.Humor - These books were adorably funny. Between traditional slap-stick humor, funny quips between characters, and silly side narrative, I actually found myself laughing out loud (which is definitely something I don't do often enough). I think it's safe to say that any child who reads this book will find themselves laughing out loud, too.Narration - I don't mean the narrative of the series. I mean the actual narration. I listened to the audiobooks. In fact, the original reason I chose to listen to these books in the first place was because they were narrated by one of my all-time favorite actors - David Tennant (Doctor Who, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Jessica Jones). This series was an absolute delight to listen to. Mr. Tennant was an extremely immersive narrator. His character voices, enthusiasm, and interpretation of the text were wholly entertaining. His native Scottish accent definitely added to the immersion, as well.Concept - It's hard to read this book pretending you never saw the movies or TV show. I often felt that this series felt a little derivative, but of what? Of itself?! When you take a few steps back and look at this series, it's pretty obvious that it's a very original concept. Sure there are other books about a boy befriending a dragon to fight a threatening villain, but this series doesn't have that feel to it. This book is about a boy who needs to figure out that he can rule the tribe, but at the same time break away from the idea that Vikings are supposed to be cruel and intimidating. I've never read a light and fluffy book that takes place in Viking territory - you don't tend to think of "light and fluffy" when you think of Vikings. I loved the idea that all Vikings had pet dragons that they controlled using fear and aggression, but Hiccup allowed his dragon to choose whether or not he wanted to help (being a stubborn dragon didn't help, but in the end Toothless would help anyway). I feel like the main themes to take away from this book are bravery, kindness, and friendship.Modularity - Each book could have been read in any order. The author would remind you of any pertinent information you should have remembered from previous books. I believe that this is worth mentioning because any child can read any book and not feel lost or discouraged or overwhelmed. Since each book was episodic, they read as companion novels instead of serial novels. It's important to note that there are some installments that vaguely relied on events from the previous book, but it wouldn't have deterred me from reading it out of order (say if my library had a hold on one).CONSNormally I like to lay out Pros and Cons, but I struggled to find something that I didn't like with this book (obviously after I got over that they weren't like the movies). This series was a lot closer to a 4.5 star rating, but since I don't give half stars I left it at 4. The only reason I didn't give this series 5 stars is because even though this was a middle grade series, the situations the characters got themselves in (and out of) where convenient and scientifically unrealistic. While I feel that these are good thing for middle grade stories to have, it just wasn't something I always got on board with. There were quite a few times I found myself saying "Really?!" or "That's not how it works..." and even "The force of that impact would have killed him". I don't feel right holding that against the series because it's purely personal preference and quite possibly the result of me being ridiculous and jaded.OVERALLOnce I got over the fact that the movie strayed vastly from the book (the only things they had in common were names), I really enjoyed this series. It was funny and action packed. This is a fantastic series for young readers. Unfortunately, if you're looking for a novelization of the movie, I wouldn't read this series. There's actually a whole series of books based on the TV show (Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk), which might be more up your alley if that's what you're looking for.The books were very fast reads. I found myself immediately starting the next book each time I finished with one. The great thing about fast reading middle grade books is the feeling of accomplishment that young readers will feel when they close the cover of their book and immediately reach for the next one. Nothing motivates young readers more than being able to see their accomplishments and feeling pride in achieving a goal.

The story is great. HOWEVER (and it's a big however) the Kindle version is not actually a Kindle file like you're probably used to getting when you purchase an e-book. Instead, this is much more like reading a PDF on your Kindle, with pictures of the pages of the book. This means it's a set size and you have to try to grow or shrink it like a picture instead of being able to use the text size buttons on your device. It makes a ridiculous reading experience and frankly, I'm amazed Amazon allowed a major publisher to hoodwink people like this with a so-called electronic version of their book. Cause it's crap.

My 6yo daughter is at that awkward stage(for me as her book buyer:), where the 'leveled readers' are too easy and short for her and I am struggling to figure out what books are too old or too young. Since she loved the movies based (loosely) on this series I thought we'd give it a try. After all, I knew she would eventually grow into them if they were too hard for now. Well they are PERFECT. The style is so engaging that even though she informed me she wouldn't be ready for chapter books until she is 7 (?!?!- kid logic), after reading the forward she was pulled right in. Nice big words and adjective and adverb laden sentences to really keep a kid's interest. One caveat- the humor does involve giving people meaner names than you want your 6 year old to call people, so a quick reminder chat about what is okay to call people in real life is a good preventative. The format is great too, it's a little larger than your 'standard' paperback and the paper is very soft and flexible, so it turns out to be easy for little hands to hold while reading it. There are cute drawings on a few pages and the font itself is large. (This also is nice for those older readers- Grandma forgot to bring a paperback on vacation and borrowed the first dragon book- it is much easier on her eyes than the standard book font.)

So, let me tell you about the Kindle version of this book. The book itself is WONDERFUL. But the kindle edition? Don't waste your money. Here I am, legally blind, in love with the HTTYD movies, and excited to read the books...Oh look, it's 1.99! PERFECT.Only, I open the kindle version...and the font is TINY. Tiny, tiny, TINY. I go to enlarge it...and there's no options? I go to highlight something - I can't. Here I am, in my thick-lensed glasses, and I can't read this on my brand new kindle. Are you kidding me?! Why even have it available on Kindle if you aren't going to include all of the option? So not only is that a waste of space on my kindle, its also a waste of my money and time. I don't know how anyone can read this without getting major eye strain and a migraine.Consider fixing your format and maybe I'll write a better review.

The How to Train Your Dragon series is fantastic! Wonderful for encouraging young boys to read, but enjoyable for the whole family. Of course, the books are better than the (Americanized) movie, but the audiobooks may be the best version of all. It's performed (not narrated) by David Tennant, who is absolutely amazing. Always, but especially here, where he's created dozens (hundreds?) of characters that come alive in your imagination.Especially recommended for those who enjoy British lit like Harry Potter, Roald Dahl or Terry Pratchett, but really for anyone who likes stories and storytelling.

Just the best series for little ones. David Tennant is the absolute best narrator and makes all the characters so lively. He makes your imagination come alive with all of the nuances he gives each character. And the writing by Cressida Cowell is impecable as well. We listened to all the books 3 years ago, and now we are doing it again. This time my kid is reading along in the books as we listen. He needed the visual with the auditory to understand some aspects of phonics better. I plan on doing the same thing in 3 years for my other child, and I know I will be just as enthralled then as I am now.

I personally don't know if this book is any good, but I can tell you my son read the entire book in @ 2 hours the same day he received it. He did not stop - not for tv, computer, or tablet. He was fully engaged and filled me in on the jokes as he was reading. He is looking forward to more of this series and was so excited to see that his favorite authors endorsed the book.

My son loves it great book bright and bold

My kids love this book. They even reread a bunch of their Big Nate books after reading this. Great as always from Lincoln Peirce..

Fabulous drawings superb story. My grandson loved this book and has read it twice already! I can’t wait for my granddaughter to read it.

My 7 year old son loved this book.

Amazing

Max & the Midknights is a cute middle-grade novel that is part comic, part prose, and a ton of fun.Max is an apprentice to their uncle, a traveling bard, but their heart yearns to be a knight. This is a story focused on breaking down barriers that were long built before the protagonists arrived, and about having the courage to stand up for what you think is right. On top of that, it’s also pretty hilarious at times, and the artwork is really engaging. The story is pretty quickly paced and makes it really easy to sink a lot of time into it all at once, and really throws a few curveballs in here and there to keep it interesting. Max is such a little force to be reckoned with but is also humble, pragmatic and kind. I really love the friendship built with the other Midknights, especially since they really help each other find their own way and encourage them to play to their strengths.I really love the mixed medium that these types of books offer readers, especially since it makes larger chapter books more accessible and fun to those who otherwise might be hesitant to grab something this size. I know a few kids who read books like Big Nate and Dork Diaries and feel a confidence boost in their abilities because of the size of them, and they eventually felt comfortable digging into more text-heavy novels. I think Max and Midknights is perfect for that transitionary stage, but also for pretty much anyone ranging from young readers to adults.I’m definitely recommending this one to those who have found a love of the comic/prose books out there, and to those who want a quick little heartfelt book that will make you smile.I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Max and the Midknights is a lively, humorous addition to the popular comic-style genre that includes books like The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and The Dork Diaries. While it is similar to the author’s Big Nate series and includes a nod to that series at the beginning, you don’t have to read a single Big Nate book to understand this one.Max is a very reluctant apprentice troubadour who really wants to be a knight. The twist that Max was actually a girl was perfect and unexpected and totally welcome. Max took the lead among her group of friends but didn’t really overshadow them; each had something to add to the group, whether it was information, pragmatism, or magic ability. The adults weren’t all complete morons, which is sometimes a trope in children’s books. The illustrations were perfect, though I did raise my eyebrows at the weird hoof-feet on the horses. Interesting choice, and sure to drive the horse-loving kids a little crazy, but funny in the end.I was able to read this as an ARC version, and I suggest it for any elementary or middle grade collection where kids are clamoring for more humor and comics. It’s also nice that it’s a fantasy, so you might be able to entice realistic fiction comic readers to try out a new genre.

Fun book for Star Wars fans of all ages. The stylized art is very appealing. Would be a good book for a parent to read with a young Star Wars fan.

I bought a set of these books for my 4 year old nephew. He loves them and they are a good level for him to read with his mom and dad's help. My only complaint is that the pages are very thin feeling. It seems as if they may rip easily. For the price, the books are great.

Great books, super informative. Learned some names and storyline reading these to my twin boys2 thumbs way up

Gave this to my son around his 6th birthday ... he loved it. Not to long, big pictures, good for any Star Wars fan.

I got this for my soon-to-be 10 yr old grandson bc it was easy for him to read but not too simple. The description says up to age 2, that's not right at all. You'd have to read it to a 2-yr old yes, that's true, but if you want a kid to engage in it by him/herself, they'd need to be older. Lots of nice color illustrations.

I’m a Stars Wars dork.

A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 2), by George R. R. Martin

Amazon.com Review

How does he do it? George R.R. Martin's high fantasy weaves a spell sufficient to seduce even those who vowed never to start a doorstopper fantasy series again (the first book--A Game of Thrones--runs over 700 pages). A Clash of Kings is longer and even more grim, but Martin continues to provide compelling characters in a vividly real world. The Seven Kingdoms have come apart. Joffrey, Queen Cersei's sadistic son, ascends the Iron Throne following the death of Robert Baratheon, the Usurper, who won it in battle. Queen Cersei's family, the Lannisters, fight to hold it for him. Both the dour Stannis and the charismatic Renly Baratheon, Robert's brothers, also seek the throne. Robb Stark, declared King in the North, battles to avenge his father's execution and retrieve his sister from Joffrey's court. Daenerys, the exiled last heir of the former ruling family, nurtures three dragons and seeks a way home. Meanwhile the Night's Watch, sworn to protect the realm from dangers north of the Wall, dwindle in numbers, even as barbarian forces gather and beings out of legend stalk the Haunted Forest. Sound complicated? It is, but fine writing makes this a thoroughly satisfying stew of dark magic, complex political intrigue, and horrific bloodshed. --Nona Vero

From Publishers Weekly

The second novel of Martin's titanic Song of Ice and Fire saga (A Game of Thrones, 1996) begins with Princess Arya Stark fleeing her dead father's capital of King's Landing, disguised as a boy. [...] In between [the beginning and the end], her actions map the further course of a truly epic fantasy set in a world bedecked with 8000 years of history, beset by an imminent winter that will last 10 years and bedazzled by swords and spells wielded to devastating effect by the scrupulous and unscrupulous alike. Standout characters besides Arya include Queen Cersei, so lacking in morals that she becomes almost pitiable; the queen's brother, the relentlessly ingenious dwarf Tyrion Lannister; and Arya's brother, Prince Brandon, crippled except when he runs with the wolves in his dreams. The novel is notable particularly for the lived-in quality of its world, created through abundant detail that dramatically increases narrative length even as it aids suspension of disbelief; for the comparatively modest role of magic (although with one ambitious young woman raising a trio of dragons, that may change in future volumes)... Martin may not rival Tolkien or Robert Jordan, but he ranks with such accomplished medievalists of fantasy as Poul Anderson and Gordon Dickson. Here, he provides a banquet for fantasy lovers with large appetites—and this is only the second course of a repast with no end in sight. Author tour. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I tried reading the first book a while ago, and honestly got lost with all of the characters. After watching the TV show, it was easier for me to keep them all straight in my head. This is coming from a life-long avid reader (I read almost every day and have a library of books under my belt). All that said, once you get your mind wrapped around the characters, the books are phenomenal. It's not an easy read, no - but it's well worth the effort. Even if you've seen the TV show, the books keep you enthralled in this fantasy world. Highly recommend!

This is book two in the Game of Thrones series. At this point, King Joffrey is the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Because he is still a boy, his mother remains Queen Regent. Joffrey remains cruel and is holding Sansa hostage at King's Landing. Now that Sansa's traitor father is dead, Joffrey and his mother refuse to let her go home. Sansa's sister, Arya is posing as an orphan boy and trying to get back to Winterfell. Sansa's brother, Robb - King of the North - is battling to rein the seven kingdoms. Danerys is trying to get to Kings Landing so she can become the rightful Queen of the seven kingdoms. This book was as good as the first. RR. Martin is a very talented writer. There are 1000 characters, and you sometimes get a little lost on who belongs to you, but it doesn't distract from the story. Even though he writes about a fictional world, he doesn't make up words just to make them up. He makes those 1000 pages fly by.I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next. If you haven't tried this series yet, I highly recommend it.

As with the first novel in this fabulous series "A Clash of Kings" features memorable characters interwoven into a richly complex story of kings and lords, soldiers and knights, ladies and princesses. It is hard to overstate how engrossing this story is. Many of the characters are quite literally unforgettable. It all takes place in a world that never was, but which bears some resemblance to medieval Europe and Asia. Here, competing lords are vying for the Iron Throne -- the kingship of Westeros. The people of the North seek to break away and become an independent kingdom under the leadership of the Young Wolf, Robb Stark of Winterfell. This is a great story.Lord Tyrion Lannister dominates this second novel, but the other main characters (and many of the minor ones) are equally unforgettable and all are highly nuanced. The story sweeps forward as lords vie for the right to be the king. Don't miss this one. RJB.

As always every book from the Song of Ice and Fire series is amazing. This is the second book to the series and I love the allegories of this book which can be related to reality where power grab is common and often the order of the day. This books pick up from where the Game of Thrones left after the throne was succeeded by the son of Robert Baratheon, Joffrey Baratheon. Yet his succession to the Iron Throne is packed with controversies. This is the very same reason that prompted others to claim for the same throne. But what I find to be most frustrating was Stannis is claim to the throne is based on his legitimate succession as the eldest sibling of the former king but why the hell would his younger brother Renly made the same claim? Wouldn’t it be great if Stannis and Renly were on the same side against the Lannisters but that is how deep and complex the story and plots of the series that’s why I love it.I reccommend this to all the fans of the Game of Thrones series and those who are seeking books that has some element of political allegories in it. The same reason why I am reading the series aside from being fan of the popular TV series. As I said above the series is amazing and enlightening as I look at it from the perspective of political allegory.

After I finished "Game of Thrones," I immediately downloaded "Clash of Kings" and began reading, eager to continue the story that so fully captured my attention. This series is highly addicting, and I'm incredibly late reviewing this because it's impossible to stop reading after finishing a book to compose a review. Also, the second and third book sort of run together, which makes it difficult to review them separately. This is the perfect follow up to the first book - carries the momentum from the events introduced there and sets up its own story. It somehow manages to be darker and grittier than the first installment without stepping into the realm of being gratuitous . In fact, it's probably one of the best second novels I've read. Spoilers follow.I usually give a brief summary of the novel's story in my review, but with "Clash of Kings," a brief summary simply isn't possible since there's so much going on in the book and a lot of it ties deeply to the events from the first novel. Instead, I'll supply a very brief overview. With Robert Baratheon dead and the legitimacy of his children brought into question, the Iron Throne is up for grabs and Westeros is plunged into civil war as (at least) four different people claim the Throne as theirs. Meanwhile, the Night's Watch in the North begins to investigate the people beyond the Wall, the Wildlings. In the East, Daenerys Targaryen moves forward with her plan to conquer the Seven Kingdoms for herself. Her following has dwindled after the death of her husband, but her three newborn dragons make her notorious. Though she refuses to give them away to secure aid, Daenerys hopes she can use her dragons to her advantage to reclaim what, in her mind, rightfully belongs to her family.Martin sure knows how to tell a riveting story. I've read a fair bit of fantasy over the years and eventually had to take a break from the genre due to becoming bored with seeing the same clichés and tropes used over and over again. As I read "Clash of Kings," I found myself waiting to see the book fall into the same pattern of predictability that I've seen elsewhere. The first book was great in being unique and unpredictable, but could Martin really maintain that high standard throughout a second book? The joke's on me because he definitely can...and I've learned better than to doubt his originality. There isn't much in the way of resolution in this book, but that's ok since there are several more books that follow it. Instead, "Clash of Kings" serves to propel the ideas established in the first book. We see how events from "Game of Thrones" have unfolded and developed into something bigger and more widespread, and what we see is fascinating. It's also worth mentioning that there are a lot of big players in this war, but Martin manages to make all of them distinct. None are just thrown in to be there and all of them are fleshed out. This isn't a generic world filled with the normal trappings of the genre - Martin's Westeros is unique and fully realized. Reading about the different factions alone would be compelling...combine it with an intriguing plot and you've got one Hell of a good read!It should also be noted that Martin pulls no punches when describing his dark, gritty world. If you're squeamish and prefer to read about characters that blush when thinking about kissing or battles that are over and done with relatively quickly and cleanly, this probably isn't your book. The big theme in "Clash of Kings" is the huge, ongoing civil war that has erupted across the entirety of Westeros, and no detail is spared. The full horrors of the battlefield - bones being crushed, flesh split, the gruesome results of someone being turned into a bloody pulp via being bludgeoned by a blunt object, soldiers being trampled by their own horses, pretty much any awful battle-related thing you can come up with - are portrayed in graphic detail. These fights aren't glorious; they're long, agonizing, and brutal, and Martin writes them so well that you'll find yourself on the battlefield alongside the characters (for better or worse, in some cases). He's done his research on the tools and tactics of the medieval period, and it definitely shows. He also doesn't hesitate to show us the other not-so-pleasant aspects of humanity. Sex (whether consensual or the spoils of war) is a common occurrence and it isn't portrayed in a nice, chaste manner. Like many other things in the books, it's blunt, realistic, and often uncomfortable...both for the characters and the reader. The people who populate Martin's world drink, curse, and entertain lewd, violent, or otherwise nasty thoughts. Sanitation is what you'd expect it to be in a war torn, medieval country. These things often aren't fun to read about, but they add a level of authenticity to the novel, and I personally find it refreshing to read an author who doesn't sugarcoat the realities of armed conflict. The details characterize the world and the people in it - if you read "Clash of Kings" and think "Wow, this person/event/place is awful!" then you're probably thinking what Martin intended with this characterization. Westeros is not a fun place to be, and Martin's attention to the dark, gritty, unpleasant details bring that into sharp focus. Much like with "Game of Thrones," this book has several main characters with the point of view changing in each chapter. This continues to work well by providing different viewpoints of big events without becoming repetitive and tiresome. More importantly, it showcases Martin's talent for creating dynamic, three-dimensional, complex, fully realized characters. I've read a lot of novels lately that have been in first person point of view, but have ultimately failed to capture the essence of the character or put the reader in the protagonist's head. "Clash of Kings," though written in third person, doesn't have this problem. Each character's viewpoint is distinctly different with the characters' biases and backgrounds moving prominently to the forefront. Even better, with the figures' biases colouring events, you'll often wonder whose version of events is the correct version or if any of them are truly accurate. It makes of an interesting, unique reading experience, especially with the big events that unfold in this book. It's also worth mentioning that although there are certain characters who are clearly protagonists and antagonists, whether or not you like them will be largely dependent on how you react to their characterization, not what their role in the story is. Since starting "A Song of Ice and Fire," I've noticed that everyone seems to like and dislike different characters - and what one person may like about a certain character may cause another person to dislike them. I think this demonstrates how realistic Martin has made his characterization. It's a lot like reading about an actual person: very few people are simply classified as good or bad - instead, they have numerous aspects to their personalities that resonate well with some people and act as turn-offs to others. The characters in this book are much the same...and with many of them doing or being witness to darker, nastier things in the second novel, there are plenty of opportunities for your opinions on certain characters to change. On a random, character-related note, I'm pleased to see that Martin actually has a wide array of female characters. I'll be honest and say that the stereotypical female tropes that pop up in the fantasy genre bug the Hell out of me: women tend to be either delicate damsels or kickass warriors, neither of which has ever struck me as particularly interesting or realistic. In "Clash of Kings," we're treated both to some of our favourite women from the first book as well as new heroines. There are no stereotypes here and each character embodies her own strengths and flaws. Sure, there are women who fall in line with the traditional gender roles of a medieval wife and those who prefer a more warrior-esque life (as well as many who lie somewhere in between), but they're so wonderfully characterized that they never become predictably stereotypical, nor are they overlooked in favour of the male characters. A lot of authors could learn something from Martin: it's possible to write a varied female cast without them becoming stereotypes. Furthermore, it never feels like a character is included to provide "another female perspective" (or another male perspective, for that matter) - they all matter and they all provide valuable insight into Westeros, the war, and their unique situations. While there isn't a "main character" per se, if I had to pick a point of view character that features most prominently, it would definitely be Tyrion. This is his book: how he rises to the lofty position of the King's Hand and how he uses his intellect and cunning to overcome his lack of physical prowess in a book that's largely about battles, knights, and their consequences. While Tyrion isn't my favourite character, his perspective is always interesting since he has to go about things in a vastly different way than the book's other figures. If you're a fan of Tyrion, this is your book!"Clash of Kings" is a solid follow up to "Game of Thrones." It manages to be darker and grittier than its predecessor without coming off as gratuitous and continues the story without seeming like it's being unnecessarily dragged out. Martin's writing and characters are just as satisfying as they were in the first book, and I finished the novel feeling like I needed to start the next one immediately (and I did - thank goodness I didn't have to wait!). "A Song of Ice and Fire" is a truly unique and refreshing entry in the fantasy genre...and it's impossible to stop reading after one (or even two) books.

Great ideas in this book. I would like to add that regular retirement plans (401K, etc) also have plan fees that aren't mentioned here, as well as how tough taxes can hit you at retirement, but I picked up some good ideas to share with my clients. His main point on a diverse plan is very important, as they can strengthen each other. This is a changing environment and may need to be updated from time to time.

This book gave very good insight on selling an IUL product. It broke down the how to's and things to avoid when presenting. I like that fact that it was very simply and easy to read. I think the author did a great job making the examples easy to understand. I will definitely incorporate some of the knowledge I've learned from this book. There was one spelling error I ran across but for the most part it is an excellent read for agents learning and selling the IUL products. I would highly recommend it.

Quick read that focuses on important key components when ascertaining whether or not a SLIRP is appropriate for your client!

At only 16 pages including lots of pictures and graphs, there wasn't much there to teach you how to actually sell an Indexed Universal Life policy.

I like your guidelines. Thanks for taking time to put this together. I will sure use your advice as I start the buisness and hope to change peoples lives while making few extra $$$$

Great book! Good for beginners and pros. Financial advisors should have one, too. Very clear and precise. Will read it again!

Nothing fancy, not much insights. Just a very basic overview of some IUL sales approaches. It mentions some terms without defining them, which new agents will likely have no clue about.

I am a custom carpenter in Metro Detroit, and have a large library of carpentry / trimwork detail books. I mostly use these books for discovering my customer's style and for generating ideas for their projects. This book is by far one of my 2 most referenced books in my library. It makes nearly every trip I make to a new customer's home. It contains great photographs of very nice architectual details. I highly recommend it, and will soon be buying my second, and possibly third, copy.

Note: I'm coming at this from a professional perspective.I don't mind if only one or 2 pictures in a book are useful. This book distinguished itself by by having none. Literally not one picture of good architectural trim. The accompanying text was equally bad, though I guess not entirely useless if you knew literally nothing about house styles. Many of the examples were actually wrong. Probably the majority. The book should have been entitled "how to make garbage looking trim out of what is lying around your local orange box store". If you've always dreamed of incorporating cheap fake colonial casing into a built up crown moulding, this is the book for you.No mention of the orders, etc. etc. etc. Basically, not up to wikipedia. There are far better books. I paid 1 cent plus shipping, thankfully, but way overpaid. I'll keep almost any book in my design library - I have hundreds - but this is going to goodwill. Or the recycling bin, actually, so no one accidentally uses it as a resource. Its basically "Interior Trim for Vinyl Siding Houses"

This book provides not only good ideas but "how to" as well. It is an impressive collection of interior photographs illustrating examples of architectural details use in a range of styles from formal to casual and period to eclectic. It is entertaining as well as informative--a good read!

Lots of good ideas

I had checked this book out of the library, so when I saw it online I had to have. It was delivered promptly and in good condition.

This book is very helpful for those who are interested in those little details that really make a room different.

Even though there is more trim work shown, it is not harder, adding simple layers can make the trim look more complicated

Good ideas!

This fascinating account reveals the importance of our digestive system, discusses how it all works to our benefit for lifelong good health - and it is all written in simple layman's language. The pro's and con's of many familiar medical treatments are discussed at length in understandable language. I found it most absorbing and informative. The delightful illustrations enhance the text, and provide a light touch.

It's an interesting read, and especially the first half is really good. I got a bit bored in the second half. Did learn stuff, tho!

Will I remember most of the facts outlined in this book? Probably not. Did some sections cause me to glaze over? Admittedly, yes. Did I laugh out loud, chuckle quietly to myself, share odd facts with my husband (and Facebook)? Yes, yes and yes! For someone with a very mild interest in human biology and the gut, I found this book very informative and really entertaining.

Sure hope more research is done. This book delightfully describes our emerging understanding of our immune and digestive system. Who knew?

Educational, informative and fun! Never thought I'd be saying that over a book about the gut, but here I am. This book covers a hell of a lot of detail without ever being dull. It's well worth your time :)

I'm a Clinical Nutritionist and recommend this to friends, patients etc. She writes for the layperson but in a manner that is not patronizing. The information is presented in a humourous manner that engages the reader from page to page.....

After years of reading health information books and the like I found this refreshing writing style most engaging. Full to the brim with only newly acquired scientific knowledge this book stand poised to flip the health paradigm on its head. We need to focus on the small to truly experience the best of the big. Brilliant book that needs to be read by the masses. Well done.

Written in a very simple style so that a layman can understand it, yet explains the interactions in our gut biome very clearly. In some cases the style is as if it was aimed at children but rather than irritate me I found myself smiling and enjoying it. A very easy read of a complex subject that gave me the insights I was looking for. Plus it gave me a far better understanding of kitchen hygiene to boot. Not often you find a book on a complex subject written by a specialist that is both informative and humorous in style providing an enjoyable read.

Japanese avant-garde artist, sculptor, and novelist Yayoi Kusama begins her memoir with the Yokohma 2001 International Triennale of Contemporary Art exhibition in which she showcased two installations. She then goes back in time to 1957 when she left Japan to further her career in art in America at the age of 27: ‘my destiny was decided’ in New York. After an initial struggle, she became a successful artist, noted for her ‘net’ art and later for her polka dots and ‘Kusama Happenings’ in the 1960s.She painted the same thing every day: black canvases covered with nothing but nets, which looked like white lace. She describes her obsessive repetitive patterns and her ‘severe neurosis’ stemming from a ‘toxic childhood.’ She says that ‘before and after creating a work I fell ill, menaced by obsessions that crawl through my body.’ She suffered hallucinations, asthma, arrhythmia, tachycardia, and high and low blood pressure due to her severe anxieties. ‘If it were not for art, I would have killed myself a long time ago.’Kusama’s autobiography describes her thoughts behind her artwork, how they developed, and why she focussed on specific themes. It provides readers with a full understanding behind her as an iconic figure and her iconic art. She is exceptionally honest and open about her mental anguish, but also about how she fully comprehends the triggers and how she deals with her demons – initially personally and later with the assistance of professional psychiatrists when she checked herself into a psychiatric hospital.Writing her autobiography in 2001 at 72 years of age, she is now 87, living in the psychiatric hospital, and still painting. This is a fascinating autobiography. This is more than a description of her artwork. It is an in-depth private view of her imagination and creativity, and the neuroses that drives her art as a way to exterminate her fears. ‘The positive and negative become one and consolidate my expression.’ She defines her work as Psychosomatic Art. Kusama finishes her autobiography in 2001 in a reflective, calm state of mind, content to continue her art – because she needs to, because she has to, because she wants to, and because it keeps her alive.

Amazing Artist! Amazing Book! Amazing Seller! Amazing Deal! <3

Wonderful. Would of liked it to be much more longer and in-depth because I really want to get to know her. Overall, wonderful book and a great way to see the evolution of a artist.

Have it to a friends for her going away. Love this book, it came on time and great read.

A most enjoyable read, a mind opener about Kusama and how it is reflected in her art. Taboos of the time are approached without complexes.

bought this book for my daughter and she loves it

Interesting artist- interesting life!

Bought this book to read up on Kusama before I go see an exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Kusama: At the End of the Universe. Really interesting. Can't wait to see the exibit.
