I got this book when I moved to the country and it was an excellent investment. It has guided me through selection, buying, raising, breeding, birthing, and keeping the animals healthy and happy. It is a great beginner thru intermediate book, but as you get further into raising and maintaining animals you will need a more advance medical/health/vet book to provide more detail and pictures to help diagnosis problems.

This book is ok, but it's VERY BASIC information. If you have any homesteading knowledge, then this is probably not the book for you. But if you're starting from ground zero - it's very good. :)

Great book with lots of important info for those who are just trying to get ideas together for turning their homes or lots into small farms!This book, which exceeded my expectations, was far better than i thought it would be, but everyone who buys it MUST KNOW it's one that, though its thorough, it only briefly deals with each subject.It is a great starter book but if someone really wanted to get more into one or the other subjects, a book on that particular subject would be needed to supplement.I love it. For anyone just starting out, and who want to know just the BASICS, I highly suggest this book!

If you own the original Backyard Homestead this book is great for going into more detail about animal care (if you don’t own it you need to get it!!). Wish it had a section about horses but there are plenty of books already out there about them. Happy with this purchase!

This book is just what I was looking for. We are wanting to start our homestead on 9.5 acres and I have no clue what I need or how to do it or how much of what lol This book breaks it all down for those of us who don't know much! I highly recommend this book. It is fun to read! Lots of good info!

Bought this book for my niece and her husband who's goal is to move to Idaho and start a Yak farm. Ok, there's not much in here about Yaks, but great ideas on how to set up a farm with agriculture and animals, depending on size. Lots to read and think about, which is the idea behind gifting the book.

WOW! I'm nearly done with it. It is a really easy read and covers (so far as I've gotten) many species, their needs, pros and cons of various breeds within the different animals. It has made making up my mind about a bunch of things in planning a small farm as well as brought up many considerations that I hadn't thought of yet. I'm sure it's information will prove invaluable. Downloaded and reading on Kindle app on my phone and windows based laptop. That Kindle app is pretty neat and syncs your devices to the most recently read page of your books. I'm in the middle of a handful of books and look forward to finishing and returning to it as a reference in the future.

After purchasing and enjoying The Backyard Homestead so much, I decided to buy The Backyard Guide to Raising Farm Animals. I was not disappointed at all! This book has the same information as The Backyard Homestead, but it is expanded. Now I have all the information I would need in one complete book. It even has guides for the best breed of each animal. It has answers to problem questions such as: "Why are my chickens not laying?" I'm been able to figure out many different issues I have with my animals because of this book. It really is a great resource, and I'm very happy to have it in my collection.

His failed invasion of England deeply contributed to the Norman victory at Hastings, and he was widely reviled by Churchmen of his day, who felt he returned to pagan ways. Also it is by no means accidental that Gwyn Jones ("A History of the Vikings") ends the Viking Era with his death. Hence this saga is of great historical value in that it provides more information on a historically important figure.Serious students, however, should skip this work, as it is an excerpt from a much larger collection entitled "Heimskringla" which is also available in a number of translations. For those who wish to simply read a short, fun, and action-packed saga, this book is for you.

This is an excellent publication for anyone interested in the Sagas of Iceland. The Saga can be found also in Heimskringla The Saga of the Kings.In this dedicated publication, to the King Harald of Norway, the work is vital to anyone, and also to the scholar of Medievil History. I thoroughly recommend it.This Kindle format is much cheaper to purchase than the main works on the Sagas.

Nicely presented with good notes and background information. A look into an important time and some idea of what people thought of their own history. If you are interested in the Sagas and especially about the time just before and including the Norman Conquest you'll want to read this.

Some parts are better than others but overall I had a difficult time getting through this one.

If your kid is named Harold or Harald, and other kids tease or stereotype this name; then buy your son this book and tell him he was named after a very powerful king and therefore is of royal lineage. My brother went through this when he came from from Norway to live in the USA at age 6. In his US grammar school, teachers kept telling him that he spelled his name wrong and that it should be spelled "Harold" when it was indeed legally spelled "Harald". But my brother held true to his Viking heritage and kept spelling his name Harald. He is doing rather well today with his music, bodybuilding, writing, investing and just being Harald.AAMOF, one of his teachers who was adamant about him spelling his name Harold is now holding a minimum wage job at Wal-mart.

Bought these for my children's school. The illustrations and explanations are beautiful and not too heavy-handed. However, they are not something to just hand to a child for them to read themselves. They definitely need the context that an adult would provide. Many of the concepts could be confusing for a child--dying by the age of 40, poverty in the midst of plenty. Hard things for even an adult to grasp at times.

When David Smith's earlier book, If the World Were a Village, was published a few years ago I was immediately captivated by the concept as well as the actual product. I've purchased several copies over the years to give to teachers and libraries, and I've recommended it to many others. So, I was glad to note the publication of If America Were a Village, and I wasn't disappointed when my copy arrived. I am a consultant to schools and now will recommend both wherever I go.The book makes fascinating facts and figures understandable to all of us by placing them in the context of a "village" of 100 people. For example, if America were a village of 100, 5 people would have more than half of all the wealth. And the 60 poorest would share only 4 percent of the wealth. That certainly puts things in perspective for me! There are many more of these insights on everything from religion to jobs to where we live.As an educator himself, David Smith also includes about a dozen very practical suggestions for teachers and parents "to support our children in unraveling this complex, multi-faceted" country. I'm going to make sure the children in my own world have access to this book as a tool for expanding their own international horizons by first understanding their own country. I can imagine that students in schools all over America will soon be doing worthwhile research projects with titles like "If Tulsa Were a Village." Or Wyoming. Or any community in the world.

I did not care for this book for my elementary students. It was hard for them to relate to the ratios. I have not used it but once and do not plan to use it again. Maybe just not the right level for my students. Many numbers compared to sizes of things. I thought it would more simplistic text.

We had a copy of the 2015 PSAT test prep from Kaplan and decided to buy the 2018 edition since the 2015 would not give us access to the website. The best I can say about this copy is that it gave us access to the online portion of the website and the online test.However, the practice test in this book is IDENTICAL to the one in the 2015 edition. Seriously Kaplan? You couldn't get the energy up to creating a new practice test for the new edition of the book? The book has been really disappointing since it has a number of errors and the website is useful but you can find the same tests and coaching materials for free on Khan academy.Kaplan is really going to have to up it's game if it plans on continuing to have customers buy their newest test prep books

This 2019 version's practice portion is almost the same as 2018 version. The practice test is present in older PSAT book. My son found it useless since there is almost nothing new.

Other than perhaps minor editing changes, this is the exact same book as their 2017 "Strategies, Practice & Review" book. I understand that the strategies would be the same, but even the practice test, is identical. I bought the book for an updated practice test and wasted my money. Do not buy this book if you own the 2017 edition. I have included a photo of the first page of both practice tests side by side for review purposes.

I feel dumber already, having flubbed the first practice test. And I was a National Merit Finalist back in the 90s...Still, the test prep strategies seem to be working for the teenager on her way to take the PSAT and the Kaplan guide helped her with the ACT last year.Practice questions, explanations of right answers, all in, a good preparation book. Here's hoping it leads to good results, but you really only get one shot at the NMSQT side of this.

I found some questions that are either misprinted or unclear. My son was doing the online test then it was suddenly interrupted at the middle of the test. The software did not allow him to go back to complete the test.

We are shocked by the errors of the book. Just started Math session, one math session of Unit One Extra Practice of total 32 questions, there are 11 mistakes in the answer session. The answers are not line up with the questions. Also, Chapter Two Practice, missing information in Question # 11. We felt like the book was just copied and pasted from previous year's edition, and the company did not even bother to go through basic editing to make sure the accuracy of the book. Very disappointed. Kaplan is the BIG name in test prep business. We are very disappointed.

This book is exactly what it says it is. The cover says PSAT Prep 2018. I opened it up, and there were things to prepare ("prep") for the PSAT in 2018. Amazing. Well done, Kaplan, by putting things between the cover of the book that are relevant to the title.

My teen-aged son found this book to be very helpful and he did very well on the PSAT.

He let me know the moment he got home he was already on his couch paging through it before proudly displaying it on his coffee table.The book comes shrink wrapped which kept it in great condition but didn't allow for writing a note on the inside. The book absolutely looks fantastic from the outside and I can see why my brother decided to leave it as a display piece. The Jordan 1 really pops with the gold letter background.The content with all the sneaker history is just as great. I'd recommend for any sneaker head out there.

Very well made and well printed book. Looks expensive on a coffee table. I went to the actual exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum and then bought the book from Amazon later as s gift for my husband. He loves it. The content is great.
