Let me start by stating that I am in love with Maria Popova. I heard her at the 92nd street Y last year, and read Brain Pickings every Wednesday and Sunday. I am a fanboy. Thus I eagerly awaited Figuring. The book attempts to establish intellectual songlines of a diverse group of scientists and poets, mostly women, over some four centuries.The problem with the book (I am giving up on it at p93) is that most of the connections are slight at best; something along the line of... "and could it be merely coincidence that X and Y both use the conjunctive "and" in their writing, and as far as we can determine, both put salt in their soup, thus prefiguring FDA guidelines by a century...What seems to work well in short pieces which gesture at intellectual congruence falls apart in this more extended format, becoming a sort of intellectual ADHD.I will continue to read this most gifted and thoughtful author, and am sorry the current work fails me (clearly it hasn't for other reviewers)If anyone wants a pristine copy I will send it to you for the price of postage--you may have better luck.

I’ve never felt more grateful for the existence of a writer. This book is about science, humanity,love, ideas, beauty. There is a refreshing alignment of science with art, in that science is essentially organic art- that is if we judge art to be what inspires. And, it’s about the precious vulnerable smallness we get to feel when astounded by the wonder of the big sky of the anatomy of a daffodil or the upending of love. Maria Popova brings the scientist’s of wonder to life, especially women scientists, who are otherwise unknown (zest least to me). Maria Popova is a scientist of human hearts. She she holds out, with great care, for us to see, what is sweet and tender in the hearts of these greatest of minds. By humanizing their greatness, she lets us see the beautiful in every human, in myself. A main theme is beauty - the people she writes of are driven to genius when awestruck by beauty. And the theme of beauty is within Maria Popova’s gorgeous writing. Very gorgeous, inspiring, and a sense that every word is infused with profound respect and love for her subjects and for the ideas. You’d figure a book about science, poetry, history, love, and everything else human, would get bogged down. It doesn’t. It’s the smoothest read. It feels graciously offered.

The first sentence alone is worth the price of this beautiful work of art. I read it over and over, and then typed it up and sent it to a friend. I'm going to commit it to memory, it's that breathtaking. This book is a treasure. Thank you, Maria Popova!!

I don't think I've ever reviewed a book I haven't finished yet, but I feel compelled to fan the flames of this incredible offering. This book, Maria's Muse, is at once (from the first deliciously long sentence): Captivating, Inspiring, Eloquent, Whimsical and Deeply Satisfying. Like beholding and having the first taste of an authentic 11-course Chinese meal, I'm swooning with anticipation of the delights to come. As a fan of "Brain Pickings" I sense what I'm in for, yet also feel certain I'm poised for a transformational experience amidst Ponderables, Ideas and Catalystic Tidbits.

What I really liked about this series is that I never lost hope when reading this series.I enjoyed the Substitute Arc, to The Soul Society Arc, to The Arrancar Arc and it ends in quite possibly the most underrated and most unappreciated Arcs in the series. The Lost Agent and The 1,000 Year Blood War Arc.The Lost Agent Arc is a nice change of pace from the 2 previous Arcs that mostly involved long Battles and FightingIt begins with our Main Character Ichigo Kurosaki having the normal life that he always wanted but after 17 months after losing them, he realizes that he missed being a Soul Reaper and wants to get his powers back.He later encounters Kugo Ginjo and his Band called the Fullbringers, and it's filled with Mystery, Slice of life from the lesser characters, and tons of plot twist near the end. And it's my 4th favorite out of the main 5.For some reason, this Arc is given a lot of hate, and I think it's maybe because it isn't as grand or epic as the previous to Arcs. And While I enjoyed the Soul Society and The Arrancar Arcs slightly more. I really enjoyed reading this because I feel it was a nice break, and I did enjoy knowing more about the Fullbringers. And I liked it slightly more than the Substitute Arc. (In my Opinion the most Underrated Arc in the series.)And Finally The Final Arc in the series The 1,000 Year Blood War Arc. As of 2018, this is the only Arc not to be completely Animated. But there's a lot I liked about this Arc.The Story Starts of With our Main Villian Yhwach the leader of his Army of Quincies known as the Wandenreich.And it's here that we get the full story behind Ichigo's powers and how his Parents meet. And in my opinion the most Visual, Optic, Easy to read, Creative, and Out of this world Fighting that I ever experienced.You have characters who can Manipulate Fire, Ice, Fear, The Dead, Forming Materials, Transformations, And changing a character's name to mean that thing!!! and during these fighting, we get to see a lot of the characters giving tones of Backstory, Lore, and their respecting Personality. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! because I never imaged that the series where it is mostly based on fighting would evolve into fights becoming more Intense, character-driven and that so many fights resolved into each of there backstories and their lore that in the end, I ended up carrying for 95% of these characters. and I never hear anyone mentioning this.Seriously? I'm I the only one that notices these things?But of course, there are some problems do need to be mention.It was around this time that the Creator of Bleach Tite Kubo was being ill and he was being rushed that not everything was completely resolved. not everyone was giving their full potential, there are still mysteries that were never solved, and it does feel rushed as it gets near the end.But by the end of the day loved how it ending, with tones of characters given needed attention, backstories, and motivation, all while the fighting is happening. and I even enjoyed the ending.To me, this series doesn't deserve all of the hate that it gets, and I'm glad that I read all the way to the very end Because the 1,000 Year Blood War, is my favorite Arc in the series. and I Hope until 2019 that Bleach will make its return and I can witness it in full animation glory.I'm so glad that I got all of the box sets and that i'll be able to read all of them untill Chrismas.Thank You Tite Kubo for giving us this amazing Series.

For the most part, it's all good. The box looks REALLY nice, it arrived in good condition. I love the bonus art booklet. But there was one massive flaw. There were two copies of volumes 62, 63, and 64, and volumes 71, 72, 73 were missing. Not exactly ideal. It won't be too much of a problem to order the missing volumes individually, but for an expensive box set like this, it shouldn't be necessary. It was probably just a mistake, but order at your own risk.Edit: On closer inspection, the box is not in good condition. I didn't notice before because the exposed cardboard is white, and the damage is in a white area of the artwork. It's actually a pretty large spot. So even more problems.

This set picks up right after the Aizen arc and covers the Fullbring and Thousand Year Blood War arcs.As soon as this arrived, I was immediately struck by how awesome the box is that all the books came in. The cardboard is sturdy and covered in beautiful full-color artwork and even has a nice plastic handle at the top for easy transport. All of the manga inside was in perfect condition, in order, and not missing any pages/books/whatever. This is an absolutely awesome set and I could not be more pleased!

Bleach is my favorite anime of all time and I finally decided to collect the manga after five years. The third box set is definitely a step up from the first and second box set in every way. Over all, I think this experience was one of the best.

This text is truly horrible. Errors abound so if you are looking for a rigorous exercise in proofreading and editing a book this is a great project for you; however, if you are looking for a book that you can actually use please select another text.The writers of this book clearly did not have the text proofread by a professional editor or even a high school English student. Not only is the text full of incorrect spelling but they frequently use homonyms and other incorrect terms. As for the SOP section they are useless because instead of actually giving instructions they simply say to do things properly.As a free download this book is not worth the time to read it much less the cost of purchasing a printed copy. It would be faster to write this information from scratch that it would be to correct the constant errors in this text.

Wasn't exactly what I was expecting but ok....

repeated information throughout, grammar and spelling is awful--like they didn't even bother to use a spell check. many of the SOPs are mis-named and repeated.some useful information but not worth the time to find it hidden amongst so much useless other stuff.

It is very basic, and very repetitive, just a bunch of lists from tasks that hotels don't do anymore, it is simply not worth the money.

BOOK HAD JUST BASIC INFORMATION AND ALOT OF FLUFF TO MAKE IT MORE LENGTHY

I used this guidebook on my trip through the Dominican Republic in May 2015. Before buying it, I checked out the lonely planet 2014 guide from the library for several weeks and was unimpressed. I found the information in the rough guide more culturally relevant than the lonely planet version. It feels like the authors actually lived In the DR and have a deeper understanding of the culture. The book also saved me in a pinch when I needed last minute information on how to get from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana. I would recommend it for independent travelers who want to get to know Dominican culture.

I'm glad I bought this God and have since found this one the only ones available in the most current one on the Dominican Republic. I do wish I had included a current map. This book will not really be helpful if you were driving in the Dominican republic. I also wish that it had more for information about getting on the country using local transportation or using the ferry to go from Sabana de Le Mar to Samana. You can take a ferry across the samana peninsula for the equivalent of four US dollars and this will save great time rather than driving on what can be roads very different than what American drivers would be used to. I also highly recommend reading up on using local transportation called gua guas which will get you from town to town for the equivalent of one US dollar.I also do not recommend the Bavaro hostel in punta Cana. I do recommend the tropical village chalet in las Galeras and the Dominican treehouse village in Samana.

The book is pretty good, lets me know about all the towns and places for review, but fails to ultimately impress. I'm in Dominican Republic now and frustrated by the organization of information. I almost wish I had bought the lonely planet because I love their book design and layouts. But I went with rough guide so I wouldn't have the same book as everyone else traveling...Overall it does its job and gives good info,but could do a better job.

Still looking for a guidebook that is better that just researching on the internet. I would say this one is a good start if you have never been there before, but not a cover all. Skim through it then research spots you are interested in online to find out about changes.

This guide is written by someone who actually visited the island. How do I know? Because we visited soon after, and the details published in its pages could only be written from first-hand experience. An excellent guide for anyone visiting DR for the first time!

Not as informative as i had hoped (or depended on). Not enough maps. Not enough information to navigate as a solo traveler not booked in an all-inclusive resort.

Not nearly as good as other travel books I've used. The maps were useless & the info not well organized. Very disappointing.

It did not have derail on punta cana where I am going but overall o very good book for traveling.
