I used this guidebook on my trip through the Dominican Republic in May 2015. Before buying it, I checked out the lonely planet 2014 guide from the library for several weeks and was unimpressed. I found the information in the rough guide more culturally relevant than the lonely planet version. It feels like the authors actually lived In the DR and have a deeper understanding of the culture. The book also saved me in a pinch when I needed last minute information on how to get from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana. I would recommend it for independent travelers who want to get to know Dominican culture.

I'm glad I bought this God and have since found this one the only ones available in the most current one on the Dominican Republic. I do wish I had included a current map. This book will not really be helpful if you were driving in the Dominican republic. I also wish that it had more for information about getting on the country using local transportation or using the ferry to go from Sabana de Le Mar to Samana. You can take a ferry across the samana peninsula for the equivalent of four US dollars and this will save great time rather than driving on what can be roads very different than what American drivers would be used to. I also highly recommend reading up on using local transportation called gua guas which will get you from town to town for the equivalent of one US dollar.I also do not recommend the Bavaro hostel in punta Cana. I do recommend the tropical village chalet in las Galeras and the Dominican treehouse village in Samana.

The book is pretty good, lets me know about all the towns and places for review, but fails to ultimately impress. I'm in Dominican Republic now and frustrated by the organization of information. I almost wish I had bought the lonely planet because I love their book design and layouts. But I went with rough guide so I wouldn't have the same book as everyone else traveling...Overall it does its job and gives good info,but could do a better job.

Still looking for a guidebook that is better that just researching on the internet. I would say this one is a good start if you have never been there before, but not a cover all. Skim through it then research spots you are interested in online to find out about changes.

This guide is written by someone who actually visited the island. How do I know? Because we visited soon after, and the details published in its pages could only be written from first-hand experience. An excellent guide for anyone visiting DR for the first time!

Not as informative as i had hoped (or depended on). Not enough maps. Not enough information to navigate as a solo traveler not booked in an all-inclusive resort.

Not nearly as good as other travel books I've used. The maps were useless & the info not well organized. Very disappointing.

It did not have derail on punta cana where I am going but overall o very good book for traveling.

Rented for a graduate course, and was surprised by all the grammar issues and mispellings. Did learn quite a bit though.

It met my expectations and beyond, the price is right, it's concise and easy to understand. It is not clogged with too my cases unlike other books in that category.

Exceeded expectations

It's a good book. However, I tried the kindle sample, which really disappointed me because there is no page number for kindle edition. The page number is very important for academic books, as people need the page number to cite. I really hope Amazon could not only simply convert the format, but also pay attention to factors -- page number, table of contents -- that could possibly influence the reading experience.

I can now report that it has worked wonders, and where before I generally had an upbeat, positive view of life, I have now turned my smile upside down and found much more to frown about.If you are unfamiliar with Grumpy Cat, he and his human companions (as well as a cat, dog, and a cactus) live in Arizona. He has become an Internet sensation by spreading the word about the pleasures of grumpiness. This book contains much of his wisdom distilled to its purest essence (e.g. "What doesn't kill you isn't working.") as well as activities such as connect the dots and the greatest crossword puzzle in feline history.If you are just too cheery, this book can help.

I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this, but I'm a fan of Grumpy Cat so I figured why not. Well, it had me roaring with laughter as I flipped through the pages. I shared it with others and got the same reaction. A cute book with great Grumpy Cat photos and sayings. If you are having a bad day, flip through this and you will no doubt cheer up. Highly recommeded, and I say that with a grumpy smile on my face!!!

I hate to admit it but this book made me smile many many times. I feel I have let down the whole Grumpy Cat universe! My apologies. Altho I am usually a very grumpy person (just ask my husband)this book was SO Grumpy that it had the opposite effect on me. So be warned !! If you are having a wonderfully grumpy/cranky/terrible/awful/stinky day this book may make you feel slightly better so you should probably avoid it until you can stare into those Grumpy eyes & those grumpy lips without cracking up or allowing a single ray of sunshine to fall upon your face. It's your Grumpy duty & just because I have failed in my quest to resist the pleasures of this book doesn;t mean that you have to follow me into the sadness of defeat. Perhaps it is best said that to resist the Grumpster is futile. It may be better to avoid this cat altogether.NAH !!!!!!! Enjoy the heck outta this silly if over-used "grumpy"cat face. Life is short, share the Grumpy cat with your friends & loved ones. I showed it to my cats & they were totally unimpressed. Grumpy/Lumpy/Stumpy .... where's my darn food!! Why would you waste your time looking at that cat book when you have US ....... Ohhhhh stupid humans. They are so easily entertained & amused.

Amusing and totally in character, Tarder Sauce is at her grumpy best. The illustrations are well put-together and contribute greatly to the whole. The activities are a hoot. I quite enjoyed it.

my friend told me about Grumpy Cat. I had not discovered Grumpy Cat, but when I decided to send a gift her way, I wanted to find a book for her and this was the book of choice. My nurse friend called and was laughing during our conversation, telling me about the funny pictures and how her daughters would be thrilled with this book, too. it was a hit as a gift and I wish there were more books like this to send as gifts.Based on my friend's reaction to this book, I highly recommend it for anyone wanting/needing a smile and a great gift for a friend, relative or self...especially if you want some smiles. The shipping was fast, the item arrive in perfect condition and I am so pleased with another "Amazon winner" in my opinion. My friend is really enjoying this book and I think you will, too.

I ordered two of these books for myself and a coworker who has the calendar. It's a lovely little book that gives an inside look into grumpys life, home, and the things that essentially make grumpy cat grumpy. Other readers were apparently expecting a "War and Peace" type-book with an angry cat, which is not what this is. This is a charming little book that will make the most disgruntled person in your life momentarily less grumpy. I'm keeping it at work for a pick-me-up, on those challenging days where I'm devoid of humor and get the nagging voice that says "a masters in social work was a hideous choice, go into finance." 😍

If you enjoy Grumpy Cat's less than cheerful point of view, you'll find this book to be a quick, fun romp! I chuckled frequently. Two things kept it from earning a 5-star review:1) sub-par production values. As others have mentioned, several "standard" grumpy poses were recycled quite a bit in different memes rather than taking the time to come up with fresh poses for each page. I'd love to see a more comprehensive photolog.2) The ebook version could be better. It is not scalable on my 7-inch tablet, making the footnotes impossible to read. When viewed on a full-size monitor using Amazon's Cloud Reader, the typography became more legible, but I could not figure out how to display the content in 2-up (side-by-side) format, which is ideal for reading some of the quizzes.

There is a reason this cat has become so vastly famous on the internet. He is hilarious! Funny thing is, he doesn't even try. He is just pessimistic, grumpy and miserable and it works. Man, the laughs I had while reading this one....To think this is all based on an actual cat in the world. Maybe he's not grumpy in real life, but as long as his face is, there is an empire there. It's a ton of fun to see this cat poke fun at everything.I also really liked the activities in the book. Maze, searchwords, and more. They were not really for kids though... Well, maybe the kid trapped inside us adults...A fun, fast and delightful book that you and your friends will get a kick out of.

Most people know the big story about WWII but this war, as all wars, was filled with little stories that you never get a chance to know. I have to believe a lot of Americans are not even aware that we had German and Italian POW's on American soil during the war. I only know because my mother told me about when she walked down Woodward Ave in Detroit, passing the State Fair grounds by Eight Mile Rd., where some Italian prisoners were being held. They would call out to her as she passed by.I was not aware of how many areas in the country had European POW's. Sumner provides stories and anecdotes that both inform and humanize the POW's. We are aware of how large our country is but we never think about others not being aware how large it is. The prisoners were amazed at the depth and breadth of our nation.There are some touching stories included that drove home to me how alike we all are and that it's countries that don't get along, not the people in the countries. I have read Dr. Sumner's other works and like his previous books, this one does not disappoint. This is a part of our history that most American's do not know about.I highly encourage people to pick up this book and enlighten themselves on the topic.

My husband and his parents actually lived in the UP at a fire tower and had met some of the prisoners. He was young enough at that time, he didn't know who they were. Nice men who missed their children and wives.

Great read! This is not only an outstanding WWII historical account, but an American story as well. Sumner nails it. I highly recommend for any WWII history enthusiasts.

I finished this book in two sittings. A great read with moving stories. Well done. I admit to a lump in my throat as I read the closing part of the epilogue.
